Dr. Samuel Kidane is currently a Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, focusing on machine design and manufacturing. He also serves as a Distinguished Engineer at Lighthouse Insight consulting firm. Prior to that he spent ten years at Apple Inc. as Senior Technical Staff, designing machines and instrumentation across many products, with emphasis on precision and opto-mechanical systems. Before Apple he was a Research Specialist in 3M's Corporate Research Labs, where he developed roll-to-roll manufacturing processes. He has also taught machine design and manufacturing processes at San José State University. He received his B.Sc. from Addis Ababa University, his M.Sc. (ME) from Louisiana State University, and his Ph.D. (ME) from the University of Minnesota in 2006.
